Hedging your bets

Foraging hedge planting course at Castlefarm on 13th December

A foraging hedge planting course will take place at Castlefarm organic farm, Narraghmore, Athy, Co Kildare on Saturday, 13th of December from 11am to 3pm.

This course will teach people how to plant a fruit/nut and berry hedge that will provide buckets of foraging food in the years ahead.

The course tutor Paddy English is a vastly experienced horticulturist and owner of English's Nursery, Wexford. Paddy will identify what fruit, nut and berry trees will work well together to maximise the production and diversity in a foraging hedge. He will also focus on disease resistant varieties. There will be hands on demonstrations on how to plant the different types of bushes and trees. The course, which is part funded by NOTS, will take place from 11am to 3pm. The cost is €30 including a light lunch of local food at Castlefarm. Discounted prices from English Nurseries will be available on the day for course attendees. To book or for further information contact Jenny Young at Castlefarm Shop on 059-8636948 or jenny@castlefarmshop.ie
