Shoppers and visitors to Athy are reminded that free parking ends this Friday (New Year's Day).
The Town Council agreed at their November meeting to waive parking charges for the town during the Christmas period (similar to previous years). The gesture was welcomed by the local Chamber of Commerce and the Shop Athy project.

Further to November meeting of Town Council, please note that it was agreed that free parking would apply in town from Saturday, 19th December to New Year's Day (inclusive).
Traffic Wardens/ Gardai will continue to patrol unauthorised and illegal parking in non permitted areas (loading bays, disabled person parking areas, etc).
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, the people of Athy and in particular the folks of Rathstewert, St Josephs and surrounding areas are celebrating in style. Eat, drink and be merry, it is the annual lighting of the grotto lights. The Marian Shrine Christmas lights will be switched on following 7 o'clock Mass in St Michael's Parish Church on the night of Saturday 12th December.
In the true spirit of Christmas the choir will be conducted by renowned choir master Emmanuel Kennedy. They will perform a selection of Christmas Carols and seasonal songs. Mulled wine will be liberally dispensed to drive the cold Winter away and a number of seats will be available for the comfort of our Senior Citizens. To finish the evening hot snacks, generously provided by the host, will be provided in Ann's Place. Everybody is welcome, young and older, so please come and help put the Happy into Happy Christmas.
