Reeling in the Years

Celebrating 35 years of Kane's Pub

In 1974 Margaret and Liam Kane returned to Athy where Liam originally hailed from, and took over the running of the public house formerly known as The Railway Hotel.

Thirty five years later the pub is still a family affair with Margaret and the late Liam’s son Paul offering a warm welcome and crackling fire in the heart of Athy.

On Saturday 12th December Kane’s are celebration the 35 years with an evening of nostalgia, craic and live music from John Lawler, in the best tradition of Kane’s Public House.

On the evening a slideshow of old photographs featuring events associated with Kane’s through the years will be shown on screens in the pub.

Liam was a keen angler, a passion carried on by his sons, Mark, Paul and Myles, and Kane’s soon became the home of the Athy and District Angling Club.

Down the years Athy Pitch and Putt Club, Athy Musical and Dramatic Society and Castlemitchell Gun Club also used Kane’s facilities to host their events.

Music was always at the centre of Kane’s, and Liam loved to play the button accordion. Paul continues the musical legacy as he performs as a DJ, even if the style of music is a little different to his fathers.

The Kane family are looking forward to welcoming as many of their customers and friends as possible to help them participate in ‘Reeling In The Years’, Celebrating 35 Years of Kane’s Pub, on Saturday 12 December from 8.00 pm.
