Messing about on the river

This Saturday a new sporting activity begins in Athy with a canoe water polo competition taking place on the canal (in front of Gargoyles). With over nine teams taking place this promises to be an exciting and wet event and should be great fun for spectators. The event will go on from 10 am until 4 pm and could be the start of a new sport for the town. All are welcome and the organisers would love your support

Thank you Richard. Saturdays canoe polo competition was a success despite the rain. Thank you to all who supported it on the bank and to local business' providing prizes. We had 8 teams and the Irish mens squad down on the day. We are looking to provide kayak training to people in Athy if you are a beginner and interested e-mail athycanoeclub@yahoo.com or ring me Jimmy Byrne on 087 775 7722 (no texts will be replied to.) Kayaking is well represented in Ireland and we would be very happy to meet existing paddlers within the area.Beginners need to be comfortable in the water and be able to swim with the aid of a life jacket. Our aim would be to utilise the existing area for river trips, training beginners, canoe polo, racing and safety training eg. boat rescue, paddler rescue etc. for a taste of what you can achieve after 1-2 years check out the following sites if still interested contact us.
