WATER SUPPLY UPDATE - WEDNESDAY, 13th JANUARY

WATER SUPPLY UPDATE - WEDNESDAY, 13th JANUARY - 2.40pm Athy Town Council continues to appeal to householders and businesses to conserve water, following restrictions placed on the regional supply earlier today.

The Town's own supply remains in place and is fully operational and has now been extended to areas previously served by the regional supply (Dublin Road and Kildare Road).

All areas throughout the Town are at risk of reduced pressures with the higher areas having an increased risk of loss of supply. We regret any inconvenience caused by these restrictions and will do everything possible to minimise their scale and duration.

The Town Council is monitoring the water supply situation on an ongoing basis and will provide regular updates on its website www.athytowncouncil.ie All users are requested to conserve water where possible.

EMILY SQUARE WATER ACCESS POINT

A water supply point with tap from mains supply has been set up at Emily Square (corner of Osborne's Solicitors). The public can access water at this location today Wednesday up to 8pm and tomorrow Thursday from 8.30am to 8pm.

WATER CONSERVATION

In order to assist the Town Council to continue meeting the current high levels of water demand, we would ask people to conserve water and take the following measures:

Report any location where water is running or rising to Athy Town Council 059 8631444 or 1890 500333 (after hours)

Only use water when necessary and in the quantities necessary (see below for conservation tips)

Conservation is essential. Water supply could be restored relatively quickly if the demand was reduced.

Please Conserve water by:

* Do not leave taps running in your house while carrying out normal tasks

* Check for leaks and repair dripping taps, cistern or pipes. If a leak is seen in a public place, report it to the Council

* Only run dishwashers and washing machines when full * Use a basin when washing fruit and vegetables

* Reduce time in shower and try to avoid having a bath

* Know how to turn off water supply in the event of a pipe burst

* Fill the kettle with enough water for your needs.
